Small pale shorebird, forming small flocks running along sandy beaches

Habitat: shorelines, normally sandy or shingle

Widespread winter visitor, breeding in high Arctic

Sandy brown above and white below; shows wingbar in flight

Runs up and down beaches in clockwork-like motion

Eats crustaceans, molluscs

Nest is a neat hollow on ground

1 brood June to July; 4 greenish eggs, spotted brownish
