This wood is one of the Woodland Trust's 'Woods on your Doorstep' projects, bought in 1999. The dominant trees are oak, ash, and field maple with smaller numbers of willow, alder and downy birch. A mixture of shrubs have been planted around the fringes of the site including hazel, spindle, hawthorn and dogwood.
A special feature is a planting of 'prehistoric trees' known from the fossil record to have grown here. These include monkey puzzle, dawn redwood, tulip tree and oriental plane.
