These two ex-arable fields and a 19th-century orchard were left to the Essex Wildlife Trust in 1996 by the then owner of Sergeant's Farm. Within the orchard area a wide range of old varieties of fruit tree remain, together with an old pond and the remnants of the hedges.
The orchard, the hedges and the ponds are being restored, and a new orchard has been planted on the western field using stock taken from the old varieties in the original orchard.
