One of the smallest nature reserves in Essex, comprising freshwater marsh fed by springs. It is a traditional frog breeding site and for this reason Essex Wildlife Trust acquired it from Essex County Council for a nominal sum. An adjoining strip of land was donated later by Messrs G. Tanner and P. O. Wicks.
