A plantation of sweet chestnut trees dating from the 19th century, now managed by Brentwood Council. Sweet chestnut was planted to provide rot-resistant timber for fencing and the like. Brentwood Council resumed coppicing in the 1980s, creating a very dense woodland with open glades.
Visiting
Access from The Drive in Warley, where there is a parking area, or from Hartswood Road.
Brentwood railway station is about 2km (via Hartswood and Little Warley Common) from Thorndon North. Buses from Brentwood Town Centre run to Eagle Way, Warley.
Accessible at all times.
